March shows, new band member and pole vaulting

So.

I’ve had some time on my hands. Waiting to release “Jealous Hands” has been a blessing in disguise. If it had come out when I wanted it to, I might not have been able to put together my bad ass gang of go-bots. Here’s the new line up and some history I have with each dude…

Adam Neubauer - drums/percussion/sonic mystic. Adam is an old friend. I’ve actually been talking to him on and off since 2003 about playing with me. He helped me record demos for The Cowards Choir and Jealous Hands. He understands when to bring the thunder and when to let me sing like a girl. Which is to say, he plays what is right, when its right.

Kevin MacIntire - bass/harmony/soul captain. Kevin’s been playing with me for a few years. I can always count on him. He’s seen progression from before The Long Tail, through Pfriends On Pfilm, until now.  He does not suffer fools when it comes to playing it right, and I love that about him.

Jared Buchanan - keys/harmony/rhythm/auxiliary master engager. I met Jared in Clemson, SC a few years back on tour. Then he moved to Charlottesville and I saw him more often when I came through town. The guy plays everything and he’s got a kind, dedicated spirit.  So glad he’s in the mix.

Jon Rogerson - lead guitar/new tone master. I just called Jon on Friday to ask him if he’d be interested in playing. So stoked to have him in the band! We’ve known each other for a couple years now. Kevin’s been playing with Jon for forever.  Now that Jon is with us, we can play the record arrangements exactly as they are, and have room to expand on them live.

Judah Groveman* - cellist/heart stringer. Though Judah can not play every show, his cello has been a gorgeous addition each time he joins us. I hope to make him a regular member!

We have a couple shows coming up at the end of March. Here are the Facebook events:

So... Yeah…Pole vaulting…

In high school I ran track. Mostly middle distance. I was fascinated by the pole vault though. So, one day I told the coach I’d like to try out. He said I was a little wirey for it, but I could give it a go. In order to get over the bar, you’ve got to sprint with the pole, ram it into a spot in the ground right before the mat and thrust yourself up and over, using the force of the pole bending back. Now, I can run pretty fast, but my sense of balance when I’m upside down sucks.

I ran as fast as I could at the mat, jammed the pole down, thrust my body straight up into the air, sailing free as bird...

and came crashing down onto the track right in front of the mat, in a heap of humiliated freckles...

I stuck to the 400 from then on.
